A sure sign of spring is when the Western New York Outdoor Pistol League (WNYOPL) releases it’s schedule for the upcoming outdoor pistol season.  This year they begin on May 2 at 9 AM at the Tonawanda Sportsmen’s Club.

This is the oldest and biggest outdoor pistol competition in western New York.  Every Sunday (rain or shine) a match is held at one of 3 outdoor ranges (TSC, Ten-X or Niagara County).  You can shoot .22 caliber or centerfire (larger than .32 caliber) or both on the 30 round National Match Course.  The course is 10 rounds slow fire in 10 minutes, 10 rounds timed fire in 2 five round strings 20 seconds per string and 10 rounds rapid fire in 2 five round strings 10 seconds per string. Team scores are the top 5 actual and handicap for each discipline.

Don’t worry about being a crack shot.  You compete against other shooters in your own class for awards.  This is a handicap league as well.

Alden Director Dennis Muetel is the club’s team captain and he would be very happy to get you involved in this sport.  Contact him at 716-668-4686 for more information or to sign up. The schedule is available at: http://www.wnybullseye.com/?page_id=8
